This is an add-on test. For complete testing, consider the DUTCH™ Plus which includes CAR built-in.
The Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) measures the distinct rise in cortisol that occurs within 30-60 minutes of waking. This add-on provides valuable HPA axis information that standard cortisol testing cannot capture.
The CAR is a distinct burst of cortisol that occurs in the first 30-60 minutes after waking. It's controlled by the hippocampus and provides unique insight into HPA axis function that cannot be obtained from standard daily cortisol patterns.
Research has linked alterations in the Cortisol Awakening Response to various health conditions:
Elevated or blunted CAR associated with depressive disorders
Often shows blunted awakening response patterns
Diminished CAR may indicate adrenal insufficiency
Progressive flattening of the awakening response
